Jacob Points!

I'm going to start giving you guys points for commenting. Here's why I'm doing it: 1) To encourage the number of comments I get, which are a self-esteem increaser (Yay, someone is reading this!). 2) I want feedback on my posts. 3) To encourage discussion of what I've posted on. Obviously I've posted it, so it must be somewhat important to me and so I think I'd quite enjoy other people discussing it. 4) To reward people who comment (Hooray for commenters!).

I'll have the scoreboard on the left side of my blog. The scorecard will include the scores, names and blog (if you have one) of the 10 people with the most points.
Here's how you can get points:

1 pt. Just comment
2 pts. Find a grammatical or spelling error in my post
3 pts. Disagree with something I said in my post and tell me why

I reserve the right to use my best judgment on how many points you deserve and will use the rubric not as hard and fast rules, but more of as a guideline. And I will definitely be awarding additional points if I think a comment is especially clever.

I'll try to update the list at least once a week. You will probably only get points if you post your comment within 24 hours after my post is posted.

Here's the scoreboard so far:
Candy 3
Kirsten 3
John 2
Snue 1
Sma 1
Alli 1
Sarah 1

Besides your name, blog, and score listed on my blog you get... absoloutely nothing. Sorry, no real prizes.

Good Luck!

Wow! Here I am posting first for this one! Extra points for that?! You know how i like a contest! The very sad - or glad part depending on how you look at it is that you are a very good speller and appear to construct appropriate sentences/grammar etc. i was hoping for a bunch of points from this. From my brief run through, nothing screamed "error" to me and I'm now being shooed out the door to go to Sam's wedding so so long for now.

This is what I get for letting Nicole read my comments. She ran over and beat me to being first. At least now I'll be the only one with 2 postings!

Jake what is sad here is that you have more comments on your first three posts than I have ever had in the history of my blog. 1 point...you spelled "Insert" wrong into the title of your blog. Okay not really. 2 points... I think that your idea to keep track of points to get comments is a really really good idea so I'm sorry but I can't disagree for a third point.

Jacob. You need a double space after each period. Sorry but I can't find anything to disagree with.

I think this is a good idea. Not gonna lie it's getting me to comment. It's definitely a very jacob thing to do.

We'll make a deal. If you keep posting I'll keep reading and commenting, which will then put me on top of the leaderboard and at the same time will be getting you a lot of comments. I'll try to keep them to comments that actually mean something though. So this way we both win. Deal?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Jacob, you really do make me laugh. I love this idea. I totally agree... (sorry to not DISAGREE to get more points but I'm only be honest) Starting out a blog is ADDICTING and when you don't get new comments you get so MAD! You have more comments than I thus far and I'm feeling very low in my self esteem about it. Perhaps, since we started our blogs within a week of eachother we should have a competetion, eh? Mwahahaha I feel something brewing...

NICOLE IS CHEATING! CHEATER PETER! Also, I noticed Kirsten hasn't commented within a 24 hour period... SCORE! IM MOVING AHEAD

I want a prize if I win. But I've noticed that your comments are always fron the same five people, you should change that.

You know my comments will be your favorite because you enjoy disagreeing with me more than anyone. I already declare myself the winner of Jacob Points.
p.s. I am waiting for your music!

Miss Candy Anderson said...

EWWWWW no music. I disagree Kirsten, that's a horrible idea. How do I come to that conclusion? The proof is on his website! LOOK AT THE POLL! bahaha i am justified!

I disagree with your point system. I do agree that for just commenting one point should be given, but I think that you should raise the award for commenting about the topic of the post and the meaning of the comment. This would reward the people that put time and thought into the comment rather than those that dont really have any importance towards the post.

Candy, 5:08 am? I'm not sure if you woke up really early or pulled an allnighter.

Sarah, you only have 2 Jacob Points. I don't think you should be worrying about what happens when your winning. Maybe we'll talk about it if you get a few more.

Scott, I liked your comment. You get 3 points for it and I definitely thought about it for a bit. But here's my conclusion: I realized that most comments are going to be about the post anyways, so I'd have to boost up almost everyone's scores. There would maybe be 1 or 2 in a comment block that don't deserve more points because most are about the topic. How much would I boost them up by, too? If I gave you 2 then you would get the same amount as someone who corrected my spelling and grammer. So of course, I'd have to reward you more points for those too. I'd have to change the whole scoring system. and just to penalize a couple of people? So I don't think I'm going to do it. And that works out anyways becae I also realized that they don't neccesarily have to be about the post for them to be good comments. So anyways, thanks for the idea. It's a good one, I just don't want to have to deal with figuring out how to do it.

Lame! I disagree with the "no real prizes." What motivation is there for me?
